Here all these years of having diabetes and so far touch wood I haven't experienced any neuropathy. Except I was always lead to believe like many others thought that neuropathy was brought on by high blood sugar readings. Apparently not so according to a study that shows triglycerides is a better predictor of neuropathy than blood glucose levels. The results of this study will appear online and in the July print issue of the journal Diabetes.

In a nutshell - it was shown that high levels of triglyceride fats increase neuropathy developing in a diabetic. The study was based on 472 patients with both diabetes and neuropathy and for those who had high levels of triglycerides they were more likely to suffer from worse nerve fibre loss. The researchers are suggesting that doctors monitor their diabetic patient's blood fat levels as well as BG since higher serum triglyceride levels are better at predicting neuropathy.

Can't wait for my next blood test results - and start to question my endo on this latest piece of research!

Now, do you think this means eating a low fat diet will lower our triglyceride levels? I'll have to do my own bit of research - as this is all new to my sponge brain.
