[br]Some other ways to treat hyperglycemia are to:[br][br]1). Avoid simple starch, augar, honey, pasta, pizza, sweets, soft drinks, and bakery products.[br]2). Avoid alcohol because it increases glycemic index when consumed in excess (glycemic index is a number scale that indicates how fast and how high a particular food can raise the blood sugar level).[br]3). I'm very lucky - touch wood - haven't had many high blood sugars (aka hyperglycemia). Only when I was a teenager did I have that problem - was a naughty girl - and not taking enough insulin - eating the wrong foods - bing, bang, boom - into a coma for a few days.
One thing it's advised not to exercise if your blood sugar level is over 300 mg/dl (17 mmol/l) and you have ketones in your urine. Also, if you are sick, or have shortness of breath, or are experiencing any tingling, pain or numbness in your legs! If your medication is peaking it's probably best not to exercise as well.
How about you Awartonick or anyone else out there - have you had any problems with high blood sugars and how did/do you deal with them?
Cheers!

High blood sugar, also known as hyperglycemia, is a serious health problem for those who have diabetes. Hyperglycemia develops when there is too much sugar in the blood, which could stem from eating too much of the wrong foods, not getting enough insulin, exercising too little, or from having physical stress or emotional stress. To prevent hyperglycemia, test your blood sugar often, especially if you are sick. If you notice that your blood sugar level is above your normal target range, receive treatment immediately to prevent the risk of developing more serious complications. Even if you don’t show the symptoms of hyperglycemia, such as increased thirst, increased urination, and fatigue, a high blood sugar level should be your first warning. If you currently have hyperglycemia, the most effective way to treat this condition would be to exercise daily, eat less, avoid sugary beverages, drink extra water, and take your medication as directed. Make sure to notify your doctor if your blood sugar level is frequently above your normal range, since your doctor may need to adjust the correct timing or dosage amount.
