This is something I wasn't aware of until recently when a fellow Type 1 diabetic mentioned it on my FB page. I'm going to make a copy (or at least give them the link) of The Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study report that was released last August 2013 to my health care team. Just incase they aren't aware of it. You can read more at this link to know if you might be at risk in the future (it seems to be aimed more at my age group of 50 +).

Here's a little snippet - " those with rheumatoid arthritis, a family history of osteoporosis, female gender, increased age, decreased BMD (Bone Mineral Density), cerebrovascular disease, or hypertension were more likely to have had a non-traumatic fracture. These risk factors may be important to clinicians when identifying which of their diabetic patients are at highest risk of fracture and in need of preventative therapies. "
