I really don't recall being taught all the things these British children at a diabetic camp are being educated about in the 70's - it almost makes me think our Canadian version was like being in the Stone Ages. All I did at diabetic camp was have FUN - with no parents to worry over me :) Carb counting really only came to me when I was preparing to go onto an insulin pump.[br][br]Check it out - it's pretty impressive!! I wish I'd had this education when I younger - I sometimes think I'm lucky I'm alive with the lack of education both myself and my parents received (no internet, not many diabetic children were diagnosed then). Mainly mine is due to there not being a children's hospital near by to our home in Ottawa (and my Mum didn't drive - and my Dad worked). I went to an adult hospital - where it was mainly Type 2's - I was an amusing sweet little child (NOT) to those folks.[br][br]I also only started carb counting SERIOUSLY when switching over from MDI (multiple doseage injections) to the insulin pump. I'm still learning new things believe it or not in my management of diabetes![br][br]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4YG7jZR9-E&feature=related[br][br]Anyone else out there like myself, a long in the tooth diabetic that didn't have this type of education when they were younger? Ahhh memories ....[br][br][br]
