amontemayor, there are three crucial tests that can be done to determine if you have diabetes. They are the Hemoglobin Ac1 test, Dilated Eye Exam, and Foot Exam. Here's the link where I found these three tests, and where you can get more information about them: http://diabetes.webmd.com/features/three-medical-tests-for-diabetes-patients

There are several tests you can do to find out if you have Type II diabetes. Peaople can do self-tests by purchasing a monitor that checks blood sugar levels at home. The tests that doctors performs are urine analysis, fasting blood glucose level, Hemoglobin Alc test, oral glucose tolerance test, and random (nonfasting) blood glucose level. The American Diabetes Association provides ranges based on age and time of day:
Before Meals 70-130mg/dl-adults 100-180mg/dl-children under age 6 90-180mg/dl- 6-12yrs 90-130mg/dl- 13-19yrs At Bedtime less than 180mg/dl- adults 110-200mg/dl- under age 6 100-180mg/dl- 6-12yrs 90-150mg/dl- 13-19yrs By: FatCatAnna: Feb, 09, 2010 13:01 PM
Hey amontemayor! Good question. The best thing to do is if you are expiencing any of the symptoms shown to make an appointment with your doctor. I know that I've tested a few friends blood sugars (BG's) recently, and they were quite high - and I did tell them to go an speak to their doctor. The only problem I do find is that not all doctors are up on all things "diabetic" - so if you still question whatever they say to you and are experiencing symptoms - I would advise you try to see an endocrinlogist (you may need a referral). I'm not a medical experiment, but just saying that this is what I would do for myself. It's of course entirely up to you as an individual how you approach the management of your health. I know because of the growing concern of diabetes becoming an epidemic - that places like IDF (International Diabetes Federation) is trying to get the medical field more educated in diabetic awareness. Hope this helps answer your question. By: amontemayor: Feb, 08, 2010 10:53 AM
What tests do I need in order to test if I have diabetes? By: FatCatAnna: Feb, 07, 2010 15:21 PM
You have some good points there Sing18 - and here's a few other factors that could point to having Type 2 diabetes:
It is important to know if you have diabetes. The sooner you know, the sooner you can take steps to help you live well with diabetes. People with diabetes can live long, healthy, happy lives (I'm living proof of it myself ). By: : Feb, 02, 2010 16:57 PM
