Have not been here for a while - family and work completely took all my time.

I was working on the project for Eastern European countries where the level of diabetes and esp. Type1 is increasing sooo fast. The biggest issue with implementing any type of a medical program for people with diabetes in Eastern Europe is all the "biases" around the disease.  It took a multicultural extr. open-minded country such as the US a while to realize that people with diabetes are the same as everybody else: they are not contagious  - they have to fight with the disease on a daily basis and never know what to expect from it. With Eastern Europe everything is still on the first stage - people with diabetes try to hide they are diabetics as much as possible. At the massive celebrations they still consume alcohol and eat all "the bad" food for us. They are scared to be judged - judged by the society. There are not that many specialized places where they would accept diabetics adn most of the people can not afford to buy a pump or a BG meter. Going back to the project I was working on: we tried to develop a social program, which would involve people with diabetes and their family/friends. The center will be located in multiple clinics only in 1 country at the moment. The budget did not allow us to do more at this point but we really hope the program will have it's success in the future!

Maybe anybody else had worked or created smth similar in other countries outside of the US. Please share your opinions - I will really appeciate it :)
