Diabetes, unlike other diseases which can be cured or operated on, is something that one has to deal with for the rest of one’s life. Diabetes? Insulin-dependent?... by Professor Kinga Howorka, M.D., will help people cope with the challenges that diabetes brings as she teaches them about the functional use of insulin.

This book is an advanced diabetes guide for personalized insulin treatment with self-monitoring and multiple daily injections or an insulin pump. Presented in a question-and-answer format similar to a dialogue, Diabetes? Insulin-dependent?... discusses the challenges and the problems, the advantages and disadvantages, risks and rewards of self-treatment based on self-monitoring. In addition to the introduction to Functional Insulin Treatment for physicians (K. Howorka, Springer Publishers Berlin), it presents guidelines for people with diabetes to treat their condition using Functional Insulin Treatment (FIT).

Take Action
  • Author of, Diabetes? Insulin-dependent?, Professor Kinga Howorka, M.D., keeps people connected on how to live a normal life.
  • The book is in a question and answer form that helps develop answers to many questions.
  • Guidelines are presented to those with diabetes by using Functional Insulin Treatment.
  • FIT is the most modern and effective method to facilitate the control of insulin-requiring diabetes. It helps people with diabetes to feel good, attain the best possible glycemic control, reduce health risks, and find flexibility and freedom in their life. With FIT, they can feast or fast, exercise, and maintain near normal blood sugars with the right insulin at the right time in the right place for the right reason. If people use a more metabolically correct insulin substitution like FIT, then long-term complications of diabetes are minimized or avoided altogether.

Many already well-known facts and other things that have never been heard of before have been put in this book, together in a methodological whole. Contradictions that people with diabetes may have experienced personally suddenly become strikingly clear in this context. After a short self-testing period with FIT, the fear of completely inexplicable blips in their blood glucose is overcome, and they can feel self-assured, since they know the causes and provide solutions.
