This is the machine I use every day now because it is the easiest I have come accross ina while. I work in a hospital so I am fortunate enough to get many offers to try different machines and I was glad I gave the Active a shot.
I like the Active because it is small and I am able to download the results to my computer to see my week long averages.
I am also very impressed with the Accu-Chek customer service as I had to call them the first time I wanted to transfer the data to my computer and was lost. The person I spoke with couldn't have been more helpful as she walked me through the steps. Overall I highly recommend this product.

This meter, for your fashion-types of diabetics, has changeable skins, a la HP or Dell laptop computers. You can get a free pack by writing to the company and then they just stick on by static cling. These are cool for kids as well as older folks who want to jazz up their boring old meter. As far as function over form, this is a competent meter, without a lot of bells and whistles. It is also available free with purchase of test strips, or at least it was when I got it. I hear that this is the best brand to go with as far as getting test strips covered by insurance, but I have no personal experience with it. Overall it's pretty easy to use and simple to operate.

Although I already have a great blood glucose monitor at home (, I found that I would forget to put it in my purse or tote when going out. Having to test up to 6 times a day, it was important to always have a BGM on hand.
My husband and I decided to go looking for a smaller version I could keep in my purse. We opted for the Roche Accu-Chek Compact. It fits easily in my purse without a lot of bulkiness, and the test time is quite acceptable. The 6 sites available for testing is also a definite plus for this small blood glucose monitor. I'm happy and feel safe having this accurate, easy to use little monitor with me for when we are away from home.

The Accu-Chek has a number of useful features. The ability to check averages for 2, 7, 14, and 30 days is especially helpful when looking for patterns in sugar level. Another plus is system operating conditions, which range up to 104 degrees. There are time when the meter must be left in the car, and it's good to know that a hot day won't affect the effectiveness of the instrument. Last, but not least, is the item's three year warrenty. The fact that Roche offers three years shows that they have confidence in their product.

This is a great machine for older users. Since I started needing reading glasses I am much more likely to want a machine with a large display. The Advance Intuition has a display screen that is among the easiest to read that I have tried.
The other thing I enjoyed about this machine is that the strips are shaped in a way that makes collecting the blood simple very easy and intuitive.
I would recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for a basic glucometer that is easy to use. There is also a customer support line that is staffed twenty-four hours a day if you have a problem which is nice.

Patients are even testing more frequently since it is easy to use and hear. They can't wait to show family and friends how cool it is. TRY IT... you will NOT be disappointed...

I have tried a lot of glucometers yet this one is the first that can speak your results aloud. When you turn the meter on, it says
"Thank you for using Advocate products"....."The room temperature is ...." (Not sure why this is particularly relevant to testing blood glucose for that matter). Then it tells the user, "please apply blood to the strip." After applying only a small amt. of blood (very tiny speck) the meter counts down then gives you a digital read-out and also speaks (e.g. "Your blood glucose is One hundred and five").
It stores up to 450 results and with USB cable will download them to desktop software which you can download off the company's website. The meter can be programed to speak results in English or Spanish.

This is another great meter that I have tried. First of all, it is very easy to load the disc. Second, you get 10 test strips, instead of having to handle or reload little teeny strips. My other family members have also tried this, and they love it. Plus no coding is required, which is awesome. I find it best to buy the discs online, though, since I usually find it cheaper to purchase them over the internet than in a store. All in all, this is definitely one of the better meters out there. Great buy- you get what you pay for!

I really like this one - I haven't been testing myself as regularly as I used to, which I intend to start back up again today. But this one was defiitely quick and fast, although it was too bulky - the freestyle was more lightweight, but this one was more bulky, but definitely more efficient! I love it - but if they can make it more lightweight and give us a nice carrying case like the freestyle has. Thanks

I have been using Assure™ 3 for almost a year now and I am very much impressed with its results and functioning. Its user-friendly design not only ensures easy handling, but also allows me to test even in the palm of my hand. Another good thing about this monitor is that it uses only 3 µL of blood and gives accurate results in 10 seconds. Furthermore, it doesn’t require any kind of care and cleaning. The moment I insert the test strip, the system starts functioning, and when I pull the strip out, the monitor turns off automatically. I believe that Assure™ 3 is the best available blood glucose monitoring system and I highly recommend this great product.

This meter comes with a a five year warrenty, which is quite long. I don't like the fact that it does not do averaging because looking for trends in testing sugar levels is the whole point of testing blood. Also, I don't like that the memory cannot be cleared. This may be a good introductory product, for someone newly diagnosed with diabetes, but it's not -- in my opinion -- designed for the long term.

While light, at only 2.5 ounces, this meter includes many worthy features. For instance, 5000 tests per battery is a long life cycle, and the 250 memory of tests is also a beefy feature. I like its relatively big screen, as well. It's easy to hold and use, and while there are meters that have more testing options, 7, 14, and 30 days is sufficient.

Since BB King first came on television to endorse the original Freestyle product I was hooked. As a professional guitarist I was always avoiding testing because of my reluctance to prick my finger tips, I was literally wearing out the three fingers on my right hand that were not involved in my guitar playing. All of the Freestyle products have liberated me to test, and test accurately, using the area just above my knee. The flash is quick and very compact and I highly recommend it to any one that requires their finger tips for other pursuits - a great product!

I used this meter before I moved to the FreeStyle Flash. The advantage of the Flash is that it's more compact, which is a plus, but otherwise, they're equally accurate, which is the most important thing to me.
I've tried many meters, and the FreeStyles are the most accurate. When I do mutliple tests on the same sample, or tests one right after the other, the FreeStyle gives nearly identical readings. I have not found that to be true for any other meter, at least not nearly as consistently as with the FS.
Also, FS meters are quick, easy, and use very little blood. While I'd prefer to use a meter that's compatible with my insulin pump, I won't give up the accuracy of the FreeStyle.

This was yet another good meter that I have tried. It only requires a very small blood sample, and you can also test in alternate sites. Plus, you get instant results, about five seconds or so, and no coding is necessary. The setup is also very simple, the numbers are easy to read, and you feel no pain from the lancing device. The only small con is that the meter is so smooth that it can feel like it is going to fall out of your hand, but that was the only issue I had with it. Overall, it is a good buy.

Another GREAT testing meter by FreeStyle! The FreeStyle Lite has all the features of the FreeStyle Flash, PLUS you no longer have to enter the code number for your strips! Which makes testing your blood sugar even faster and more convenient. It's wonderfully compact and fits easily in handbags, pockets, or even a small clutch! And the light up screen and test strip port light allow you to test anywhere, anytime! I've been using this machine as an upgrade from the Flash for the past few months now, and have yet to experience ANY test strip or meter errors. The Freestyle test strips are by far the best requiring the least amount of blood, and providing super-fast accurate results. I highly recommend the FreeStyle Lite.

The sidekick is great for traveling, a backup meter or if you do not want to carry the traditional meter with you while you enjoy an evening out. The issues I have with the Sidekick is most insurance companies do not cover it, the cap can be a little hard to take off and the screen is a little hard to read. I love the concept of it all but I am not completely sold on the Sidekick yet.

I can't imagine why they even continue to make this meter. It is huge, and requires a hanging drop of blood. This is the meter my son used for the first few years and it is part of the reason that I was beside myself with worry about how my daughter would ever manage to test her own blood. Luckily there was a newer model available which she was able to manage even with her disability. It is beyond me why anyone would want to wait for 45 seconds for a blood sugar test result, but I suppose that there may be some people that don't want to change the way they do things. At least it looks like you no longer have to code it.

LifeScan OneTouch® InDuo®is a unique device that combines blood glucose monitoring system with the insulin delivery system. In simple words, this two-in-one device allows diabetics to manage their condition in a more accurate manner. You can test your blood glucose level and thereafter decide how much insulin you require to keep your diabetes level under control. In addition to helping you take an informed decision, InDuo® also remembers the amount the insulin taken at the last dosing and the time elapsed since that dosing. Thus, the system takes off the burden of counting and remembering the insulin doses. Furthermore, the blood glucose testing system of the device is less painful; it allows you to test on the forearm where less nerve endings are present as compared to the fingertips. Only 1 µL of blood is required and device generates the result in 5 seconds. Unfortunately, LifeScan OneTouch® InDuo® is no longer sold, but it is definitely a compact and discreet system.

Another solid product from LifeScan. This isn't the model with the most bells and whistles, but it does what is supposed to do and is not difficult to use.
This machine allows testing from a couple of different sites so you can give the fingertips time to heal once in a while. There is also a feature that allows you to track your blood sugars.
The screen is large and easy to read which is nice for those of us that have gotten a little bit older.
The test strips do need to be coded. This is not a big deal though and most of us are very used to doing this already.

I actually bought this machine for my mother who was having trouble reading hte display on her old one and she loves it. The display is big enough to read for people whose eyes aren't quite what they used to be and it couldn't be easier to use.
There is only one button on the SureStep so it is nearly impossible to get confused as to how to use it. It does take a few seconds longer than some machines but not enough to makea huge difference.
The machine also allows the blood to be smeared onto the test strips which is also helpful to people getting a bit older. Overall my mother and I couldn't be happier with this machine.

The OneTouch is a nice easy machine to use. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is sometimes the test seems to take a little longer than it should, but even at its slowest it still only takes about ten-twelve seconds to get a reading.
This is another machine that will let you get a blood sample from the forearm which is nice if you need to give your fingertips a break every so often.
The OneTouch doesn't need a lot of blood to get a reading and adding the sample to the strip is as easy as can be.
It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some other models I've used, but it is a nice, inexpensive, dependable machine.

When I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 5 years ago, I was handed a pile of information from my doctor. Included was a coupon for a free blood glucose monitor, and needless to say at the time I didn't know left from right about monitors. Plus, free is good, isn't it?
I discovered that free isn't always the greatest option. After fighting around with coding, lancets and testing strips for years, I found the One Touch Ultra 2. Boy has it been easier for me to test since then. Being a needlework fanatic, I found that only having my fingertips as an option for testing was becoming a hassle. Now with my One Touch Ultra 2, not only do I have the choice of multiple testing sites, but the wait time for results and sample sizes are making the world of difference in my testing schedule.

I tried this meter because it communicated with my insulin pump, which is a very convenient thing. However, whenever I try a new meter, I always do more than one test at the same time to see how reliable the readings are. I found that the OneTouch was not at all reliable; e.g., I once got readings of 275 and 237 at the same time -- well beyond a reasonable margin of error. In addition, when I did concurrent tests with the FreeStyle meter, which I know to be reliable, the OneTouch readings were as much as 20% off.
I would have liked to have used the OneTouch for convenience, but not at the expense of accuracy.

Probably the best aspect of this meter is the great, fun color choices! So far, they have pink, green, purple, blue, black and silver. The second best part is the small size. Its slim and easy to use. There are only two buttons, and its pretty easy to figure out. The biggest downfall to this meter, though, are the strips. Although it requires only a little blood, if you don't put enough on right away, you get an error message. But other than that, I would recommend this meter, especially if you would like a little color to your diabetes.

I have an important tool for life,The one touch ultra smart meter.I'm a diabetic most of us love easy use meters, monitors to understand results.I use it to measure my blood glucose levels daily. Two features I like 1.Comfort I sterilize the area in my hand with an alcohol wipe where I'll make the small prick.I put the sample of blood unto strip of the probe for reading.2. You get the results quick in 5 seconds. To me this is less painful than the old method using sharp pins. They caused sharp pain and many diabetics complained.I monitor levels at lunch, dinner and bedtime.I try eating healthy foods in portions.By measuring my carbohydrates.Drinking one cup of milk for protein.Having a palm serving of vegetables. This is what works for me and for easy use I'd refer others to use the one touch ultra smart meter.

I like the Precision Xtra mostly because of the intuitive layout of the buttons. It was easy to use right out of the box.
It also allows you to take blood from multiple sites which lessens the fingertip pain. Also, it is very easy to get the blood on the test strip. In some other machines i've owned the drop had to be exactly centered or the test was invalid.
Lastly, the machiine can detect ketones using the same strips that are used for monitoring your sugar. I've never had a problem with ketones, but if you do this is a great feature.

Haven't tried it but I like the size factor and the colors as well. Having to test glucose day after day is "dreary" enough. Why not make the meter cool and colorful to make testing that much more fun? Hats off to you guys....It looks nice and small. The large digital readout looks nice too.

Approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration, WaveSense Jazz™ is one of its kind blood glucose monitoring system. In addition to amazing user-friendly features like unit safety locks, 7-user settable alarms and a large, backlit screen, WaveSense Jazz™ requires no coding and can even measure our glycemic variability. Another superlative feature of this handheld monitor is that it requires only 0.5 µL of blood and generates the result in 4 seconds. With a capacity to store 1,865 tests, WaveSense Jazz™ is indeed the best blood glucose meter.
