  • To pump or not to pump

Our latest diabetes adventure is the immersion into the world of pumps. My teenage daughter has type 1 and we're trying to decide if a pump is right for her. She is very active and into a lot of activities so we like that the pump is more in line with her active lifestyle. The one worry I have is that it's something else that makes her different and she'll have to find clever ways of carrying it and explaining it. She's outgoing and well spoken so I'm sure she'll have no problem coming up with an interesting story behind her gadget. In doing the research we're still not sure if going down this road will make a big difference in her daily life and that's the goal. Diabetes does not define my daughter. It's another piece of her like her brown hair, infectious laugh, and addiction to reality TV. Hopefully as we dig into the research the answer to pump or not to pump will become more clear. Smile

You need to blog "Short and Nutra-sweet".  She was the first Islet Cell Transplant at the U. of Miami.  The U. of Miami put her on her first pump.  She has lived this and has also a Master Degree in Counciling children/teens.
