Studies have show that the number of children with obesity have increased in the past few ye. Obesity is often the primary cause for Type2 diabetes in children.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/07/080708193249.htm

Dr. Lee mentions during an interview, for this article, the fact that much is being invested in the prevention and treatment of adults with Type2. However, not much is being invested to prevent young children from Type2 diabetes.

Experts believe that one major problem is the food that is served in elementary through high school. There should be more healthy options rather than the usual low quality pizza, nuggets, burgers, etc. Governments should be willing to spend money on healthier foods for children. Spendng money treatment in adults would never be as effective as prenventing it before it starts. In order to decrease the rate of obesity in adults, and thus, adult Type2 diabetes, I believe that they need to start from the beginning, before it is too late.

Hi Jenn. I too think that more care needs to be taken in schools, but it's also true that in the home parents are more stressed out and less able to take proper care of their children and lose a lot of them to junk food as consolation for loneliness, frustration and depression. I think we have to start way way back, and educate and support parents more, somehow.
