Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) offer an easy way to keep track of your blood sugar at home or while on the go. Use this comparison tool as a guide to learn more about the features and benefits of your current monitor or to research a new one. The monitor comparison guide allows you to research monitor features including:
  • Sensor Life: The expiration date of a sensor is usually several days, after which the CGM may not function properly.
  • Calibration Frequency: In order to maintain accuracy, CGMs need to be calibrated at the beginning of the cycle as well as throughout. CGMs requiring less frequent calibration require less user effort.
  • Sampling Interval: How frequently the monitor checks glucose levels. Those with shorter sampling intervals give more up-to-date information.
  • Probe Size: Probe size is length of the needle multiplied by the gauge of the needle. As probe size becomes smaller, the pain associated with applying the sensor may decrease.
  • Connects to Insulin Pump: Names of insulin pumps that connect with the CGM. An insulin pump that connects to your CGM may allow you to respond more quickly to rapid blood glucose changes.
